Every pitch would be a strike
There'd be a winner without a fight
Everyone I love would still be alive
In my perfect world
A stick of gum would stay brand new
I could always find comfortable shoes
Every neighborhood would be bullet proof
In my perfect world
Years would add and not subtract
Give and not take back
The way you loved me when you loved me the way you did
Tears would be the laughing kind
And you'd be kissing mine away
The radio could play that song
I wouldn't cry I'd sing along
God's answers wouldn't take so long
In my perfect world
My favorite shirt would smell like you
It'd still be the 13th day of June
I could take back what I said to you
In my perfect world
Years would add and not subtract
Give and not take back
The way you loved me when you loved me the way you did
Tears would be the laughing kind
And you'd be kissing mine away
Years would add and not subtract
Give and not take back
The way you loved me when you loved me the way you did
Tears would be the laughing kind
And you'd be kissing mine away....away |
One of the best things about co-writing
is co-writing! In My Perfect World started off as a completely different
song. I was meeting with Brandy Clark and Bonnie Baker and I played
a song I'd written, but did not feel was done. It needed something.
You better believe it needed something! We gutted that one and started
all over with only the title and the groove.
Not only was this one of my favorite writing sessions, but
I fell in love with what we had done together. We cover so much in this
song. |
