If I could fill this space around me
With the moment truth is mine
Be released from all surroundings
Keeping me blind
Reaching out across the boundaries
Through the shadows of this place
Laying pride upon the altar
Of saving grace
Under the gaze of marble saints
I watch the candles glow
Over the sound of whispered prayer
Bringing me home again I go
When you find a gift worth giving
It will come from deep inside
From a heart that's overflowing
Love is divine
Under the gaze of marble saints
I watch the candles glow
Over the sound of whispered prayer
Bringing me home again I go
Believing there is no beginning
Having faith there'll be no end
Lying naked in the bed
The angels lay me in
Under the gaze of marble saints
I watch the candles glow
Over the sound of whispered prayer
Bringing me home again I go |
This
a great example, for me, of one of those songs that
I started that stayed with
me awhile. I had the first verse and that
was it. I would read the words and sing the melody but
I felt mystified. I honestly did not know what the
song was going to
be about for months.
I had to have the right co-writer to finish it with me.
Chris Crawford has been that person.
We met at his
house out in Dickson, TN and when
he came up with the first line of the chorus, "under the gaze
of marbled saints," it felt like the song completed itself.
In the true sense of the word, the message and meaning were
unlocked. Mystery over - song done.
Writing this song
with Chris and tapping into the more spiritual
aspects of songwriting has been pivotal for me. |
